Who is this workshop for?
The course is suitable for anyone who already has (limited) practical experience with glazing. This means you have already glazed a workpiece (using a dip or pour glaze), whether or not you encountered problems. You do not need any theoretical prior knowledge of glazes to follow this workshop.
What is included?
After the course, everyone will receive the full presentation digitally.
Furthermore, you will take home a 60ml syringe, a bottle of Dolapix PC67, a bag of Epsom salt, and a flow cup so you can get started right away. The materials to optimize your glaze are included.
What to bring?
- notebook and pen
- problem glazes (in bucket), together with samples and recipe if you have it
- lunch (can also be bought closeby)

Is your glaze giving inconsistent results? Does it work beautifully one time but not the next? Does your transparent glaze sometimes turn cloudy or milky? Are you expecting a vibrant dark blue glaze, only to end up with green or even brown tones? Does your glaze occasionally run onto the kiln shelf, even though you are certain the firing temperature was correct for the recipe? Do you keep adding water to your glaze, yet it still remains thick?
If this sounds familiar, then this course is a must. I’ll teach you everything you need to know about glaze thickness, viscosity, flocculation and deflocculation, so you can achieve consistent and reliable results with your glazes every time.
In addition to the theory covered in the morning, we’ll spend the afternoon working with your own “problem glazes”. Has your glaze settled into a hard layer? Is it difficult to work with? Is it giving you trouble during application? Together, we’ll improve your glaze.
Experiences
from potters
“The two-day glazing workshop is highly recommended! With Sofie as a guide, a difficult subject becomes understandable. The book is a great reference. Thank you Sofie, this leaves me wanting more!”
“I attended the two-day beginner's glazing course. Although I already had some experience, this course was still very engaging and informative.
Starting to make your own glazes can sometimes be daunting due to the overwhelming amount of information and complex subject matter. Sofie explains this complex world of glazes in a very accessible way, which suddenly lowers the barrier to entry considerably and only increases the desire to get started.
I look forward to another workshop to delve deeper into this magical world.”
“I learned a lot during the glaze two-day course. The course is a nice mix between theory and practice. Sofie is a structured teacher who can clearly present the theoretical background. This course is definitely recommended when you start making glazes yourself.”
