Glaze workshops

You want to learn how to make and truly understand glazes. It sounds simple; you read a good glaze book or browse online. For some ceramists, that's enough to get started in the glaze lab, but many still suffer from serious “glaze anxiety”. They are unsure where to start, afraid of failed results or damage to their work and kiln.

Step out of your comfort zone and follow a glaze workshop. You can learn to use, test, check, and develop glazes. I'd be happy to show you how it's done in one of my workshops. You're sure to find a course that suits you and is organized near you.

Sofie is a highly dedicated and engaging instructor. Her knowledge of everything related to glazes is grounded in both science and extensive practical experience. The theory is immediately put into practice, making it easy to understand and apply. The course is meticulously prepared down to the smallest detail. Besides gaining a wealth of knowledge and practical tips, you also go home with a generous amount of glaze of your own choice.”

– Carine Ogiers

“I attended Sofie’s ‘Seger and Stull’ workshop and can highly recommend it. It was two intensive days of working with glazes, combining both theory and hands-on practice, followed by a valuable review day a week later to discuss the results. Sofie explains everything very clearly , which is essential because glaze development is pure chemistry 😉. She makes complex concepts easy to understand through exercises and practical applications, so you can follow along with confidence. The test results were surprisingly beautiful and truly inspiring. I left with a wealth of materials, ideas, and motivation to continue experimenting. An excellent course!"

Should I follow a glaze workshop?

If the answer to several of these questions is yes, then taking a glaze workshop is definitely recommended!

  • You are open to acquiring theoretical knowledge about glazes.
  • You're eager to roll up your sleeves and get hands-on with practical exercises.
  • You're glazing already but have so many questions.
  • A bit of math and a touch of chemistry won't scare you, provided you have good guidance.
  • You are curious and can't wait to discover the lovely glaze samples.
  • You have a huge stack of bisque ware but you're too afraid to glaze it.

I am Sofie

As a former scientist and full-time ceramist, I've been developing glazes since 2016. What started as a hobby in my small basement studio has grown into a passion that I've fully immersed myself in.

In 2024, I wrote the glaze book "Glazes uncovered" of which more than 2500 copies have now been sold.

I've been teaching glazing since 2019, and it's truly one of my favorite things to do. Sharing my passion in manageable knowledge and showing ceramists that they too can learn to make glazes is what I love doing most.

Invite me!

I teach glaze workshops on location in Belgium, the Netherlands, and beyond. Do you have your own studio and are you interested in organizing a glaze workshop? Custom workshops are also certainly a possibility. Feel free to contact me for information and prices.
