Preparing dipping glaze

Always wear gloves, an FFP3 dust mask and, if necessary, safety glasses when mixing powdered glazes.

First, weigh out the correct amount of tap water. The exact amount is indicated on the label of your SOGO glaze. Make sure you use enough water for the amount of glaze powder you want to mix.

Pour the measured water into a bucket. For 2 kilograms of powder, use a bucket with a capacity of at least 3 litres. For 5 kilograms of powder, you will need a bucket of at least 8 to 10 litres. Slowly add the entire contents of the bag of glaze powder to the water. Mix the powder and water until you have a completely homogeneous mixture. For smaller quantities, you can seal the bucket tightly and shake it vigorously. You can also use an immersion blender to achieve a smooth result. For larger quantities, such as 7 kilograms of powder, it is best to use a paint mixer attached to a drill. A sturdy toilet brush also works well for vigorous mixing. Then sieve the mixed glaze through a 60 or 80 mesh glaze sieve. This will help create a smooth and even glaze. Use a sturdy brush to work the mixture thoroughly through the sieve.

Allow the sieved glaze to rest for at least 24 hours. After that, you can check the specific gravity and viscosity. You can find instructions on how to do this elsewhere on this blog.
